TUITION FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE STUDENTS IN MICHIGAN
Virtually all of the state's public universities and colleges have a two-tier graduate fee structure: resident and non-resident. This structure means non-residents (visa holders) of the United States pay for the actual cost of instruction, while residents only pay for part of it and the rest is paid by a taxpayer subsidy. Private universities in the state typically, but not in all cases, assess one tuition fee for all students, irrespective of a student's location. Tuition and fees for graduate programs may also vary depending upon the degree and program which the applicant is pursuing.
As well, graduate students must pay non-instructional fees, which are in addition to tuition fees. These apply to US students as well, and the bundle of services included in additional compulsory fees typically includes registration and transcript fees, student services fees, athletics and recreation fees, health insurance fees, and graduate student association fees.
Some graduate schools may provide non-renewable tuition waivers to encourage the enrolment of international students. International students may also be eligible for graduate assistantships and fellowships.
See the table below for a representative list of graduate tuition fees charged by universities and colleges in the state.
